GETTING TO SAMOA

Independent Samoa (also known as Western Samoa) comprises ten islands of which Upolu and Savaii are the largest and most densely habited. The archipelago lies midway between New Zealand and Hawaii.

American Samoa, a territory of the United States since 1900, is located to the east of Samoa and comprises numerous islands of which the main ones are Tutuila, Ofu, Olesega, and Ta’u. The capital, Pago Pago, is located in Tutuila.

Samoa is located 4 hours flight time from Auckland and 1.5 hours flight time from Fiji

Samoa’s international airport, Faleolo(APW) is located approximately 45 minutes drive from Apia the capital of Samoa. Polynesian Xplorer operates an office at the airport and provides transfers to the major hotels by arrangement.

From Los Angeles, USA

Via Air Pacific to Nadi and then a connection to Samoa – see below.

From Nadi, Fiji

Air Pacific operates twice weekly direct flights from Fiji to Samoa and once a week flight from Nadi-Apia-Honolulu.

From Pago Pago, American Samoa

Daily direct flights operate between Pago Pago, Faleolo International Airport and Fagali’i Airport. Flight time is approximately 35 minutes. Alternatively, a weekly ferry service operated by Samoa Shipping Corporation between the two capitals takes around 8 hours.

From USA / Europe / UK/ Hong Kong

As of January 2011, the quickest way to get to Apia will be via Hong Kong on Air Pacific (code shared with Qantas). Alternatively, via Auckland or Fiji as both Air Pacific and Air New Zealand have direct connections between Nadi (Fiji) or Auckland and Los Angeles. A direct flight from Los Angeles to Fiji takes approximately 10 hours while a direct flight to Auckland takes 12 hours.

A further advantage of flying on Air Pacific/ Qantas is the Bula Pass which qualifes the bearer of an international ticket purchsed from Air Pacific or Qantas to qualify to travel to two other island destinations (such as Apia, Samoa or Nuku’alofa, Tonga) for only US$99.00

We are pleased to be working more closely with Air Pacific as they are truly the gateway to the South Pacific as indicated by their route map:
