Our Managing Director is always on the run – but who would have thought she would spend 5 weeks at the invitation of the Chinese Government and the Chinese Archery Association to go on intensive training and try to qualify for the London Olympics? The Samoa Archery Association sent a small team of three archers, Eddie Chan, Zita Martel and Maureen Epati Tuimalealufano), two of them medalists at the last South Pacific Games in Noumea to do just that, and our own Zita Martel is part of the dream!
Where on the Planet is Zita?
How about shooting arrows in China!!
The small team celebrated Christmas at the National Insitute of Sports in Nanning while enduring an intense training regimen from their hosts, coaches and translators.
So, none of the Polynesian Xplorer staff are used as target practice during that time – for a change – but we all hope she will give it her best and, with a bit of help from above, become an Olympic medalist hopeful.
Next step is to the Olympic qualifier event at the New Zealand Nationals in Wellington on 1-2 January 2012…so watch this space while Samoa’s archery team is aiming for the top!
